Goodbye Flips…

The day has finally come! I have given up my Flip Cloth Diapers! I knew I would eventually have to face the music.

As many of you know I am a Flip fanatic. I enjoy the ease and versatility of my flip covers and inserts, but when I received a phone call a few weeks ago, I knew I would be parting with my flips for the first time in almost 16 months! My Stash Sister planned a visit to see our family and recently converted to cloth diapers (YEAH!!! I have been working on her for awhile). She informed me that she wasn’t going to bring her diapers because she didn’t have room in 1 suitcase for her 2 babies and her belongings. Then the next question…I knew it was coming…my sister says, “so can I borrow your cloth diapers while I am visiting?”

I couldn’t say no, I was the one who converted her to cloth diapers in the first place! Especially after I just posted a picture of My Stash on my facebook page! But this means I will have to give up my Flips because they are the easiest for her and what she is used to. I know this may seem a little “over protective” on my part, but I love using my Flips, and even though it would only be for a week, it throws me off my regular routine. Yes I am that girl who loves her routines and loves to have things organized, and may even have pack-rat tendencies?! I can’t help it, that’s the way I am. (I will probably be the one who saves my cloth diapers forever because I can never part with them)

After a few minutes, of course I agreed, it was my sister!I began the routine of cleaning my diapers and packing them up for her. I also decided that since I had plenty, and she is just beginning her stash, I would pass along a few covers as well (permanently)!

We will see how I survive the rest of the week…it’s pockets and AIO’s for me! You never know, maybe I will develop a new found relationship with those diapers I tend to push to the side at times.

Have you ever shared your diapers or given them away before?

I recently packed up 12 of my diapers for a friend to bootie because she wants to try cloth diapering. I have to admit that I didn’t send off any of my top favorites but I will eventually so she can try out a many a possible before pending. I’m holding up better than I thought ;-)

I have given diapers away that were in my regular rotation, I certainly don’t recoup any of my upfront cost by doing so (isn’t that the way to make cloth even cheaper?) But then if I used them for every baby I plan on having (lots more) they probably would not be in any sort of condition to sell. :-) I figure I have won enough giveaways for diapers I would NEVER have in my stash otherwise, so passing along some of mine isn’t so bad. I can’t say that I have parted with all time favorite diapers though, that would be a bit difficult!

I have won about 20 in giveaways too! It is difficult to part with your favorite diapers!

I was almost about to panic when I read the title to this post. I thought you were going to say cotton babies was discontinuing Flip! They are also my favorite diaper, so you can see where I am coming from reading a title like “Goodbye Flips”. Oh my gosh, ok, catching my breath! ;) In all seriousness, I am glad Flips aren’t going anywhere, but I can feel your pain in giving them up for a whole week, and some permanently, but good for you for sharing the cloth love with your sister! That is great! Good luck! :)

Ha ha, I knew the title would get everyone riled up :-) I think I would panic too if they were discontinuing the Flips. I don’t see how they can because everyone LOVES them :-)

Yes, I have given away diapers before. I gave 6 diapers that I won to my SIL. I also gave 3 hemp prefolds, a Thirsties duo cover, and Kawaii pocket diaper to my pastor’s wife {all of which I won}. I’ve also given away diapers that I’ve won on my blog. :) As much as I like cloth diapers, I don’t see the need to stock piling them “just in case”. I have over 40 diapers in my rotation.

I remember you winning one of my giveaways and donating the prize to a friend of yours. You are so true about hoarding diapeers, we really don’t need that many and eventually I will have to de-stash the ones I don’t need. So does your pastor’s wife cloth diaper as well?

I feel your pain truly!!! I actually have a friend who is seriously considering cloth diapering. But the start up costs are discouraging her a bit. Being a first time mom and cloth diaperer I can understand this as I was floored a bit at first too. But since then I have become a cloth diaper fanatic and hoarder so I figured loaning her a bunch so she can see how easy and fun it is and maybe get her to completely convert wouldn’t be so bad. Wrong!!!! I find my self sitting on the floor with a huge pile of no way no hows and a tiny pile of maybe I can part with this ones. I never thought it would be so hard to make a nice gesture. Looks like eventually I’ll just have to close my eyes and throw a bunch in a wet bag and wait till I reach for that particular one to realize it’s missing. Haha.

You sound exactly like me! That is how I try to think too, if I haven’t used it, then I need to get rid of it. I like the closing your eyes and picking diapers idea!

I just recently packed an entire stash box up for a mama friend of mine that lives in MI, I’m in TX. And shipped it to her. Half of it was a destash from my own collection. She LOVES IT. She wishes she would have started CDing sooner!! <3 She's CDing her 18 month old and is pregnant with a newbie too. I'm so excited for her and incredibly thrilled that I was in a position to be able to share the gift of cloth with someone that I love, who really needed it too. Most of my diapers were ones that I won in giveaways anyway, so some awesome bloggers helped to make it possible in a round about way <3

I loaned out my fitteds/covers newborn stash to a couple people and gave my SIL several diapers (sized Fuzzi Bunz, Pocket Change–are those even made anymore?, sized Swaddlebees AIOs) that my kids outgrew since I knew I wouldn’t be having any more. I look forward to selling off most of my stash in the next year or so and buy some trainers with that money. I’ll keep a couple favorites, I am sure. If my sister decides to have any more (probably not going to happen though) I’d give her whatever I have…it’s mostly girly by now, though, so she’d have to defy the odds and have a girl in that case. :)

Haha! I doubt she will, but I still wonder! I’ll give her another year or two to decide. ;) But yes, she’d definitely need to cd if she goes for a third. With my stash, she could do it for free!

I sympathized with your predicament! It is difficult to give up something you’ve grown accustomed to, and I feel like I grow attached to certain “favorite” items that I am constantly washing and folding over and over again. Be it our daughter’s favorite T-shirt, or a cool diaper print, it’s a little sad to pass these items along. We have a little niece who is inheriting all our daughter’s old clothing, and sometimes there are items that I really want to keep purely for nostalgic reasons. However, it makes me really happy knowing that someone else is getting as much love and appreciation out of those “favorite” items as we did :) . I’m sure your sister is very appreciative of your sacrifice!

I am sure she is too! I am the same way, it is more nostalgic than anything! I can’t even imagine when I no longer have to cloth diaper EVER :-(

When I convinced my best friend to try cloth diapering, I handed over a full stash worth to give her the ability to get started. She was like me: skeptical, not sure whether or not she was going to be able to do it long-term, but curious to give it a shot, and I had more than enough diapers at that point. Some of them, I never missed. I did, however, miss my Velcro stash when I loaned them to her for a few weeks after she broke her finger.

By the way, I’m jealous of all you mamas who keep winning giveaways. I have won exactly one, ever, and it was for a diaper that I really didn’t feel the love for until almost a year after it was acquired. Where are you finding these awesome places?!

That is awesome, and so generous of you! My hubby would die if I got rid of the velcro diapers as those are his favorites! If you look on blogs there are cloth diaper giveaways everywhere! I have a few going on right now…http://myclothdiaperstash.com/current-giveaways-2/

You can also check out Change-Diapers pages because every friday she posts a round-up of all the cloth diaper giveaways! http://change-diapers.com/category/friday-giveaway-linky/

I won a ton of diapers but it takes a lot of hard work and a LOT of entering giveaways. I haven’t won any in awhile because the blog takes up most of my time. Here are my winnings: http://myclothdiaperstash.com/are-cloth-diaper-giveaways-fake/

A couple months ago I loaned out my stash of newborn diapers to a friend who had a baby. She ended up not using them too much as she had been given so many small disposable diapers at her showers that she felt she needed to use them up. A few weeks ago she informed me that she was running out of the disposables and did not want to buy any herself, but the pocket diapers she had acquired were leaking all over the place and she was getting SUPER frustrated with CDs! I decided to give her some of my diapers to try and see if they worked any better for her. I gave her a Best Bottom cover and 3 small inserts, some prefolds and a Flip cover (these are a recent acquire for me, I bought 3 of them and am also in love with them, so it was hard to give even one up for only a short period of time, but it was a worthy cause!). She LOVED everything I gave her, which gave her some incentive to gather some of her own, and she found some really good deals and now has a little stash of her own started!! She told me yesterday her little girl has not had a disposable on since I lent her those diapers, I was so happy I could help her out. And I now have my Flip back, yes :) although it wasn’t so bad using others for a while, lol.
